New Delhi, Oct 31 (PTI) Two people were arrested with more than 1,600 kilograms of firecrackers from north Delhi's Rajender Market, police said on Tuesday.
The accused were identified as Mohammad Khurshid (32) and Mohammad Vakil (37), they said.
The Delhi government banned the manufacturing, sale, storage and use of all kinds of firecrackers in the national capital last month to check pollution levels in winter.
"On October 29, we received a tip-off regarding the storage and sale of firecrackers in Rajender Market in the Tis Hazari area. A team of anti-narcotics cell was formed and a raid was conducted," Deputy Commissioner of Police (north district) Manoj Kumar Meena said.
A joint team of the anti-narcotics cell and Subzi Mandi police station raided a building and arrested two persons with 1,601 kilograms of firecrackers, he said.
"During interrogation, the two accused told us that they procured the firecrackers from a person in Uttar Pradesh's Farrukh Nagar and were selling them at a higher price. The entire stock was seized," he added.
An FIR was registered against them under sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 286 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 34 (common intentions) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Explosives Act at Subzi Mandi police station, police said.
During investigation, it was found that Khurshid was involved in another case of illegally supplying firecrackers, they said.
