Tata Sierra Bookings Surpass 1 Lakh Milestone in India; Tata Motors To Ramp Up Production To Meet Surging Demand

Tata Motors has recorded over 100,000 bookings for the new Sierra, following a 70,000-unit surge on its first day. The company is now ramping up production to 15,000 units monthly to reduce three-to-four-month waiting periods. Available in petrol and diesel, the Sierra remains a key driver for Tata’s growing market share.

Mumbai, February 6: Tata Motors has announced that bookings for the recently revived Tata Sierra have officially crossed the six-digit mark, surpassing 100,000 units within months of its launch. During a media call to discuss the company’s Q3 FY26 financial performance, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, confirmed the milestone, noting that the focus has now shifted from generating demand to optimising the supply chain and production capacity.

The SUV, which reintroduces an iconic nameplate from the 1990s, saw an explosive start with 70,000 confirmed bookings within the first 24 hours of its opening in late 2025. This strong reception has helped Tata Motors strengthen its domestic market share, which rose to 13.8 percent during the third quarter. However, the high volume of orders has resulted in an average waiting period of three to four months, prompting the manufacturer to accelerate its manufacturing timelines. Mahindra XUV 7XO To Become India’s 1st Vehicle With Combined Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Tata Motors Production Optimization and Supply Chain Management

To address the backlog, Tata Motors is ramping up output at its manufacturing facilities, with a reported target of reaching approximately 15,000 units per month by March. Shailesh Chandra highlighted that while the company has the necessary internal capacity, it is working closely with its supplier network to overcome first-level bottlenecks. These supply-side challenges are primarily concentrated in specific components, including castings and various powertrain parts.

The ramp-up is being executed in stages to ensure that quality standards are maintained while reducing the delivery time for customers. The company is particularly focused on managing the logistics for high-demand variants to prevent potential booking cancellations. This strategic increase in production is expected to facilitate an annual output of nearly 150,000 units for the Sierra, assuming global supply constraints continue to ease.

Tata Sierra Specifications and Features

The Tata Sierra is built on the new ARGOS architecture and is available with three distinct engine options. Additionally, a 1.5-litre diesel engine is offered, producing 120 PS and 280 Nm. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), and a torque converter automatic.

Inside, the SUV features a premium three-screen dashboard layout, including a digital instrument cluster, a central infotainment touchscreen, and a dedicated display for the front passenger. The cabin is further enhanced by a panoramic sunroof, branded as "PanoraMax," and a JBL audio system with a dash-mounted soundbar.
