Pizza Hut Global CEO Aaron Powell has stepped down from his role following the completion of the restaurant chain's sale, marking a major leadership transition as parent company Yum! Brands wraps up a USD 2.7 billion divestment.
Leadership Departure and Corporate Filings
According to a regulatory filing by Yum Brands, Aaron Powell resigned from his position as Pizza Hut CEO and from all other positions with the company effective September 1. Powell had previously signalled his exit in a LinkedIn post in August, noting that private equity firm LongRange Capital - which acquired the chain's operations in the US and global markets outside mainland China - had offered him a continuing role. "LongRange offered me a continuing role, and I decided that at close was the right moment. I've always believed in leaving things better than you found them — and this business is in a better state,” Powell posted.
Context of the Multibillion-Dollar Sale
Yum Brands initially announced plans for the structural sale following sustained challenges across the pizza sector, including fluctuating demand, intensifying market competition, and shifting consumer habits. The comprehensive transaction divided ownership structures, featuring a USD 1.5 billion deal with LongRange Capital alongside broader strategic adjustments involving Yum China. Powell, who has served as Pizza Hut's global CEO since September 2021, oversaw a massive franchised footprint spanning roughly 20,000 restaurants across more than 100 countries during his tenure.
