Akshay Kumar to Play a Supporting Role in Vidya Balan, Radhika Apte’s Film With R Balki

Like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar is all set to play a second lead in R Balki's Mangalyaan starring Vidya Balan, Radhika Apte and Sonakshi Sinha.

We had heard that Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan were to reunite after over a decade for R Balki’s film on India’s space mission Mangalyaan. There was buzz about how the actress will be playing the lead, but Akshay will not be paired opposite Vidya. More details of R Balki’s this film is making it way out now. Latest reports suggest that the Cheeni Kum helmer’s project will be an all-female lead cast and Akshay will be only playing a supporting role. The Padman director will work yet another time with Akshay, however this time it will not be a full-fledged one. Apparently, along with Vidya the filmmaker has finalised the rest of his actors, which include Sonakshi Sinha, Tapsee Pannu and Radhika Apte. Interestingly, all four heroines have worked with Akshay in the past on hit projects.

Also joining this ensemble cast will be Dulquer Salmaan’s OK Kanmani heroine Nithya Menen. R Balki wants the actresses to take the centre stage and early reports suggest that Vidya will be taking the lead. Those of you who do not know, India’s Mars Orbiter Mission, was India’s first interplanetary mission that became widely talked about after a picture from ISRO office in Bengaluru went viral. This picture saw saree-clad women rejoicing the mission’s accomplishment. Although the viral picture had women from the administration department, many women scientists were a part of the successful Mangalyaan mission.

And looks like R Balki wants to embark upon this journey before anybody else jumps on it. The ambitious project will only kickstart only after Akshay wraps his two pending movies – Housefull 4 and Kesari. Vidya Balan too is currently working on NTR biopic and the actress will finish work on her movie next month. It would be interesting to see if Akshay indeed will be a supporting hero or eventually become the protagonist of this film. Thankfully we’ve seen a shift in hero worshiping Bollywood. Last time around Shah Rukh Khan played a second lead to Alia Bhatt in Dear Zindagi. We cannot wait to see the power puff girls in action.
