The House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL) founder and Chairman Abhinandan Lodha has revealed how Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan personally contacted him to purchase land in Ayodhya, sharing the anecdote while highlighting the growing appeal of India's temple towns as real estate investment destinations. Speaking at the Hindustan Times India Next Real Estate Summit 2026, Lodha recalled receiving a late-night call from the veteran actor, who later completed a INR 15 crore land purchase.

The anecdote comes as Ayodhya continues to attract high-profile investors amid rapid infrastructure development and rising land values. Bachchan has since expanded his real estate portfolio in the city through multiple land acquisitions with HoABL. ‘Power of Black’: Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Racist’ Post on France Football Team Amid FIFA World Cup 2026 Sparks Outrage.

Amitabh Bachchan Personally Called To Buy Ayodhya Land, Says Abhinandan Lodha

Lodha said he was in Australia in 2023 when he received a call around 3 am. Recalling the conversation, he said what impressed him most was Amitabh Bachchan's humility in personally reaching out. "There were a couple of missed calls, followed by a message that read, 'This is Amitabh Bachchan, please call back when convenient.' I literally stood up and called him back," Lodha said at the Hindustan Times India Next Real Estate Summit 2026.

According to Lodha, Bachchan expressed his interest in purchasing land in Ayodhya. "He told me 'Abhinandan ji, main UP se hoon aur mujhe Ayodhya ji mein land leni hai (I am a native of Uttar Pradesh and I want to buy land in the holy town of Ayodhya). I told him, we will do it for you," Lodha said. Ram Temple Trust Accepts Champat Rai’s Resignation Amid Donation Theft Row.

Lodha said Bachchan first enquired about the price. “I replied, ‘How can I talk pricing with you?’ He said he wanted to buy 15,000 sq ft and I told him it may be around INR 15 crore, and the very next day he sent me INR 15 crore,” Lodha said.

Amitabh Bachchan's Growing Ayodhya Real Estate Portfolio

Bachchan has steadily expanded his land holdings in Ayodhya through multiple purchases with HoABL. In March 2026, the actor purchased a 2.67-acre land parcel for INR 35 crore near HoABL's The Sarayu project. According to the company, this marked his third investment in Ayodhya and fourth plotted development purchase with HoABL.

Earlier, in May 2025, Bachchan acquired a 25,000 sq ft plot adjacent to The Sarayu for nearly INR 40 crore. In 2024, he purchased a 10,000 sq ft plot in the same development for INR 14.5 crore.

Apart from Ayodhya, Bachchan has also invested in HoABL's Sol de Alibaug project, purchasing a 10,000 sq ft land parcel for INR 10 crore. The project has also attracted investments from Bollywood actors Kriti Sanon and Kartik Aaryan.

Temple Towns Emerging as Investment Destinations

Speaking at the summit, Lodha said temple towns are emerging as a significant real estate opportunity, with growing spiritual tourism driving long-term economic activity. Comparing visitor numbers, he noted that Vatican City receives around 10 million visitors annually, while Ayodhya attracts nearly 250 million visitors.

"When this kind of footfall comes into a destination, economic growth naturally takes place. The local economy begins to participate, and we begin to see a real estate boom. The moment land becomes attractive, fewer people want to sell it. This is not a temporary phenomenon; it is long-term value creation," Lodha said. He also said temple towns could become the next major destination for senior living communities as cultural and religious tourism continues to grow.

Ayodhya's Real Estate Growth

According to a report by Liases Foras titled Ayodhya – A Rising Global Spiritual Capital, the city's real estate market has seen strong growth, supported by infrastructure projects including the Ram Mandir, an expanded international airport, and improved road and rail connectivity.

The report states that land prices in Ayodhya have grown at a 19% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) and could reach 25% by 2035. It also noted that land values near the Sarayu riverfront and the Ram Mandir corridor increased by more than 4.5 times between 2020 and 2025.

Founded in 2020, HoABL says it has sold more than 13 million sq. ft. of developed land and currently has around 25 million sq. ft. under active development across five states.
