In a candid interview with News18, Niharika NM recounted a pivotal moment from her past, approximately three to four years ago, when she was training under a production house in Mumbai. Having transitioned from a successful career as a content creator and with a background in film school and theatre, she was keen on pursuing acting.
Niharika shared, “There was one particular film I was supposed to do. It was being made by this great director. I grew up watching him. He handpicked me. I had auditioned for the part. The look test was done.” She further explained that she had signed the contract, which included an intimacy clause. Niharika had made it clear that she was not comfortable with on-screen intimacy, a condition the filmmakers were initially agreeable to, planning to proceed with a body double.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn. “But the actor wasn’t okay doing the scene with a body double. He wasn’t interested. It was his call. Then it became a situation of this or that,” Niharika disclosed, indicating that her refusal to perform intimate scenes personally led to her losing the role. She also touched upon her initial struggles in the Hindi film industry, citing unrealistic beauty standards as a reason she later shifted her focus to auditioning for South Indian films.
Niharika NM made her global mark in 2023 with a guest voice role in the American sitcom Big Mouth Season 7. Her acting career officially kicked off last year, in 2025, with the Tamil film Perusu, followed by appearances in Mithra Mandali and Idhayam Murali.
