DYK ‘Ramayana’ Actor Ravie Dubey Hid His Lakshman Casting From Wife Sargun Mehta? Here’s How She Found Out
Actress Sargun Mehta revealed that her husband, Ravie Dubey, kept his casting as Lakshman in Nitesh Tiwari’s 'Ramayana' a total secret from her, often leaving for the high-profile shoot with only a vague 'going to work' update. The couple adhere to their strict household rule of not discussing individual acting projects until they are public.
Actress and producer Sargun Mehta recently revealed that her husband, actor Ravie Dubey, kept his involvement in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayana a total secret from her, even after news of his casting began to circulate publicly. Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, the couple opened up about the strict professional boundaries they maintain at home, which left Mehta in the dark about one of the biggest projects in Indian cinema. ‘Ramayana’: Alia Bhatt Reviews Husband Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Rama’ Teaser, Calls It ‘Out of This World’ (Watch Video).
Sargun Mehta Reveals She Had No Idea About Ravie Dubey’s Casting in ‘Ramayana’
Despite being one of the industry's most high-profile couples, Mehta explained that they have a long-standing rule regarding their individual acting careers. “We don’t really talk about work at home," she stated. "Just like he doesn’t know what I’m doing until my projects are announced, I also don’t find out about his work until it becomes public.”
Mehta recounted that she first learned of Dubey's role as Lakshman through an acquaintance rather than her husband. “Someone randomly told me, ‘Congratulations, Ravie is…’ and I said, ‘Sssh. I don’t know what you’re talking about — we’re not allowed to tell each other, so don’t tell me.’" Even after seeing reports online, she felt bound by their pact, noting, “He didn’t even tell me, so I can’t even ask!”
Here’s How Sargun Mehta Found Out
The secrecy continued even after filming commenced for the epic, which stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram. Mehta shared that whenever she asked where he was headed, Dubey would offer only the most basic information. “Whenever I asked Ravie where he was going, he’d just say, ‘Kaam pe ja raha hoon’ (I’m going to work), without mentioning it was a film shoot,” she said.
Driven by curiosity about the massive production, Mehta admitted she eventually turned to an unlikely source for updates. “I had no clue what was happening on set. Once or twice, I even asked the driver, ‘Set par mahol kaisa hai?’ (How is the atmosphere on set?).” Dubey added with a laugh that her curiosity wasn't even about his performance, noting, “Woh bhi mere bare mein nahi, Ranbir (Kapoor) ke bare mein” (That also wasn't about me, it was about Ranbir).
