Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the musical drama released yesterday, February 14, and opened to rave reviews from the critics all over. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to microblogging site Twitter just a while back and announced the first-day collection. He wrote, "#GullyBoy takes a massive start... #ValentineDay - not an official holiday - has given a big boost... Metros are rocking, contribute to superb total... Thu ₹ 18.70 cr [3350 screens]. India biz."

Adarsh later revealed the revised first-day collection of the film on Twitter saying that Ranveer starred had actually beaten Padmaavat as it collected Rs 19.40 crore on day 1.

As per, Gully Boy clocked in good figures mainly in Mumbai, Pune, and Bangaluru. In comparison, the film did decent business in other places. Though it wasn't a public holiday yesterday, Ranveer and Alia's film certainly got a good boost at the ticket windows because it was Valentine's Day. But how the film fares on the second day will be the real test for Akhtar's directorial venture. Gully Boy Box Office Collection: Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt Starrer Takes a Bigger Opening Than Padmavaat and Simmba in Mumbai.

Since Ranveer and Alia both tasted box office success with their last releases, expectations were obviously high from their first collaboration together. With Gully Boy doing well on its first day, guess it's safe to say that the duo might continue with their fantastic box office track record. Produced under the banner of Excel Entertainment, Gully Boy also stars Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz and Siddhant Chaturvedi in supporting roles.
