Following the massive box office success of his latest espionage thriller, Dhurandhar 2, Ranveer Singh is reportedly shifting gears toward a gritty, post-apocalyptic future. The actor is set to headline Pralay, a high-budget zombie drama directed by Jai Mehta and produced by Hansal Mehta’s True Story Films in collaboration with Singh’s own Maa Kasam Films. The project, which is currently in pre-production, aims to introduce a scale of survival horror rarely seen in Indian cinema. Is Ranveer Singh’s Next ‘Pralay’?
While fans are still reeling from the high-octane action of the Dhurandhar franchise, Pralay is shaping up to be Singh’s next major venture. According to filmmaker Hansal Mehta, the collaboration was initiated by the actor himself.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Hansal Mehta revealed that Singh reached out to his son, Jai Mehta, after being impressed by his directorial work on projects like Scam 1992 and Lootere.
"Jai had been working on this idea for a long time," Hansal Mehta told THR India. "When Ranveer saw his directorial work, he was impressed. Then Jai pitched the idea to him. Once Ranveer said he liked the idea, we invested in developing it helping Jai create the world he wants to present in the film."
‘Pralay’ No a Novel Adaptation
The announcement of a dystopian survival film led to immediate online speculation that the movie might be an adaptation of Jose Saramago’s 1995 novel Blindness. However, Hansal Mehta was quick to dismiss these rumours, clarifying that the script, co-written by Jai Mehta and Vishal Kapoor, is a completely original story.
"It’s not an adaptation," Mehta stated. "I think a book like Blindness is not easily adapted to film... Writers like Saramago or Salman Rushdie, I feel they are best experienced on paper. Their books lose all their magic when interpreted for cinema."The filmmaker emphasised that the team has spent months on "concept-proofing" and "pre-visualisation" to ensure the world-building feels authentic and immersive.
More About ‘Pralay’
Pralay is being mounted on a reported budget of INR 300 crore, signalling a massive bet on the zombie genre. To achieve a "global standard," the production has reportedly roped in an international crew to handle the technical demands of a post-apocalyptic setting. ‘Dhurandhar 2’ Box Office Collection Day 18: Ranveer Singh’s Thriller Nears INR 1,000 Crore Mark in India.
Hansal Mehta noted that the goal is to create a believable, immersive world at a fraction of the cost of a Hollywood production. "The victory of Jai’s film will depend on its immersive nature," he said. "We are working with some of the best talent from around the world."While official confirmations are still trickling in, South Indian star Kalyani Priyadarshan is reportedly set to play the female lead, marking her significant entry into Hindi cinema. The film is expected to go on floors in mid-2026.
