‘Ramayana’ OTT Release Update
Following its grand worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026, 'Ramayana: Part 1' will transition to JioHotstar for its digital premiere in India. This partnership between JioHotstar and producer Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios marks a strategic move to extend the reach of the mythological epic to a broader audience across the country.
However, viewers should note that the film will not be part of JioHotstar's standard subscription offering. Instead, it will be accessible through a dedicated pay-per-view, on-demand purchase option, requiring audiences to buy access separately to watch the movie online after its exclusive theatrical window. While the exact OTT release date and pricing details are yet to be officially announced, the move is aimed at maximising accessibility.
Producer Namit Malhotra, founder and CEO of DNEG, explained the rationale behind this digital strategy. He stated, “I believe Ramayana should be experienced on the biggest screen possible, in IMAX 3D. But our country’s cinema infrastructure cannot reach everyone who holds this epic close. Ramayana belongs to every Indian, and our ambition must reflect that.”
Malhotra further added, “JioHotstar has time and again shown how technology can bring a nation together through its sports and entertainment offering. That made them a natural partner to take Ramayana into people’s hands and living rooms, after its theatrical run.” Nita M Ambani, Chairperson of JioStar, also highlighted the partnership's goal to make compelling stories accessible, describing 'Ramayana' as one of India's greatest civilisational treasures.
The Grandeur of Nitesh Tiwari's ‘Ramayana: Part 1’
Ramayana: Part 1, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is poised to be a cinematic landmark. The film, which had its world premiere at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on October 27, 2026, is set for a global theatrical release on November 5, 2026, timed perfectly with the Diwali festivities. It will be released in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, and will be screened in premium formats such as IMAX 3D.
The stellar cast features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash in his Hindi film debut as Ravana. Sunny Deol takes on the role of Hanuman, while Ravie Dubey makes his film debut as Lakshman. The ensemble also includes notable names like Anupam Kher (as Jatayu), Kajal Aggarwal (as Mandodari), Rakul Preet Singh (as Surpanakha), Vivek Oberoi (as Vidyutjihva), Kunal Kapoor (as Indra Dev), Adinath Kothare (as Bharata), Arun Govil (as Dashrath), Indira Krishnan (as Kausalya), and Lara Dutta (as Kaikayi). Produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios and DNEG, in association with Yash's Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana: Part 1 is conceived as the first instalment of a planned duology, with the second part anticipated for Diwali 2027. The combined budget for both parts, including marketing, is an astounding INR 4,000 crore, signalling the monumental scope of this cinematic adaptation of Valmiki's ancient Sanskrit epic. ‘Ramayana’ Advance Booking: Ranbir Kapoor-Yash Movie Crosses USD 500K in North America Pre-Sales Ahead of Grand Diwali Premiere.
