Mumbai, January 23: Singer and filmmaker Palaash Muchhal has been accused of cheating a Sangli-based film financier of INR 40 lakh, following a complaint filed with the Sangli district police on Wednesday evening. The complaint has been lodged by Vaibhav Mane, who alleges that Muchhal failed to return money taken for a film project that never materialised.

According to the complaint, Mane, a childhood friend of Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana, was introduced to Muchhal by Mandhana’s father, Srinivas Mandhana, during the singer-filmmaker’s visit to Sangli. Mane claims Muchhal approached him with a proposal to invest in a film titled Nazariya, assuring him of a quick release on an OTT platform and timely returns.

Based on these assurances, Mane allegedly invested a total of INR 40 lakh in multiple instalments. The payments were reportedly made through a combination of cash transactions and digital transfers via Google Pay. However, the complainant has alleged that the film was never completed. When he sought a refund, Muchhal initially promised to repay the amount but later began avoiding calls and eventually blocked Mane’s number. Police officials have confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that the documents submitted are currently under verification. Authorities have added that a detailed investigation is underway and further action will be taken based on the findings.

The case has drawn public attention as Muchhal was previously in the news following his cancelled wedding to Smriti Mandhana. Despite the controversy, Muchhal has reportedly resumed work and is preparing for his next directorial venture, which is set to feature actor Shreyas Talpade in a leading role.
