The penultimate episode of Game of Thrones Season 8 has now ended, and it has left us with mixed feelings. The episode, nicknamed 'The Last War', didn't pull out any stops on some mind-blowing action sequences and VFX, courtesy Drogon laying waste to an entire army and a city. There are also some major deaths that happened in the episode that marks the end of some very fan-favourite characters in the show. But in the end, the episode does leave us with a bitter taste in our mouths. Game of Thrones 8 Episode 5 Recap: From the Rise of the Mad Queen to Major Deaths, Everything That Happened in ‘The Last War’ (SPOILER ALERT).

For one, everything feels so rushed, including Daenerys' ascension into the Mad Queen form. We were waiting for Cersei Lannister to have her just desserts but that moment is eclipsed by Dany going bad. Also, it was a completely one-sided battle as Dany and her Drogon destroy most of Cersei's dreaded forces within minutes, including the Iron Fleet and the Golden Company.

Some of the deaths are totally expected, but the manner in which they happened may feel disappointing to some. In this special feature, we look at all the major characters who bid us farewell in 'The Bells' and how they died! Game Of Thrones Season 8 Episode 6 Promo: Daenerys Targaryen Walks Proudly in the Aftermath of King's Landing Battle in the Series Finale (Watch Video).

The first major character to die in the episode was the master conspirator, Varys. Well, he has already signed his death warrant when he declared that he won't be backing Daenerys Targaryen for being the ruler on Iron Thrones. Tyrion betrays him to Dany who arrests him and gets him executed.

Method of Dying: Dracarys

The much-hyped Golden Company, and its captain, Harry Strickland turned out to be such a disappointment. They were routed within minutes by Drogon, along with the Iron Fleet, and Harry gets killed at the start of the battle.

Method of Dying: Stabbed on the back by Grey Worm while escaping from the army.

Euron Greyjoy

Euron might have been a fascinating villain for all his swashbuckling attitude, but he really didn't get much to shine. That is, apart from killing Rhaegal in the last episode. After escaping Dracarys, Euron finds his way to the land where he enters into a needless duel with Jaime Lannister (who was trying to get into the castle). After stabbing Jaime twice, he himself gets killed by his opponent, though he is happy that he managed to 'kill' the Kingslayer.

Qyburn

Qyburn, quite faithful to Cersei, tries to take her away to safety to escape Daenerys' wrath, flanked by the Mountain. On the way, they are blocked by a vengeful Hound who wants to take on his elder brother. When Qyburn tries to stop Mountain from taking the challenge, he gets a very fatal push. It's like the Frankenstein's monster killing his own creator!

Finally, the much anticipated Cleganebowl did happen, though it was predictable from the word 'Go'! It was quite brutal, as the Hound learns that no amount of stabbings could kill his zombified brother. He does manage to unmask him, but gets mercilessly bashed by the Mountain. When a stabbing in the head couldn't stop the Mountain from dying, a frustrated Hound pushes his brother off the wall, along with himself, and they both fall down to their deaths.

Even though he is mortally wounded by Euron, Jaime manages to get near Cersei, where they have a bittersweet reunion. Jaime tries to escape with Cersei from the falling castle. However, their escape routed is blocked by the debris. Cersei breaks down crying over their child, and Jaime hugs and comforts her, before their doom arrives.

So now, Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, Davos Seaworth, Grey Worm, Arya Stark and Tyrion Lannister, who have gone to King's Landing have survived The Last War. Now to see who among these, along with the characters back in Winterfell, will survive the finale that arrives on May 20 (in India).
