Shweta Tiwari on Sonam Wangchuk's Hunger Strike

Taking to her Instagram Story today, Shweta Tiwari shared her sentiments regarding Sonam Wangchuk's ongoing protest and his critical health. The Kasautii Zindagii Kay star emphasised the importance of his mission, stating, "Sonam Wangchuk is fighting for a genuine cause… education and the future of our children. That cause deserves attention, and the government should listen to his concerns seriously."

However, Tiwari was quick to differentiate her support for Wangchuk from the political satire group CJP. She explicitly clarified her stance, writing, "At the same time, I have absolutely no inclination towards CJP. I disagree with the way they are handling this and feel they are using his struggle to push their own agenda. I don't support that approach."

She further added, "My support is for Sonam Wangchuk and the cause he is fighting for, not for any political group or organisation trying to benefit from it. Whatever our political differences may be, we cannot afford to lose a man who has dedicated his life to the country and to education. The focus should remain on his message, his health, and finding a meaningful resolution."

Sonam Wangchuk's Indefinite Hunger Strike

Sonam Wangchuk commenced his indefinite hunger strike on June 28, 2026, at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, aligning himself with the ongoing demonstrations by the Cockroach Janta Party. The primary demand of the protest is the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, citing alleged widespread irregularities in national competitive examinations, most notably the NEET (UG) 2026 paper leak controversy.

As of today, July 16, 2026, Wangchuk's hunger strike has entered its 19th day, and his health condition has significantly deteriorated. Medical teams monitoring him have reported a weight loss of over 9 kilograms, with his current body weight recorded at approximately 56.9 kg. His vital parameters show a blood sugar level of 80 mg/dL, a pulse rate of 72 beats per minute, and blood pressure readings of 105/61 mmHg while lying down. Doctors have warned that continued fasting could lead to serious multi-organ complications, though he remains mentally alert. Chinmayi Sripada Urges Sonam Wangchuk To End Hunger Strike Amid Alarming Health Deterioration (View Post).

The Delhi High Court has also intervened, directing daily clinical monitoring of Sonam Wangchuk's medical condition by government doctors, emphasising that "life of any citizen is precious" and ensuring necessary medical intervention is provided. This directive came after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed seeking urgent medical attention for the activist.
