New Delhi, June 19: Self-styled godman Daati Maharaj on Tuesday reached the Delhi Police Crime Branch office to join investigation into the rape case against him. The police had sent a notice to Daati Maharaj asking him to join probe in the case. Daati had been on the run after a rape case was filed against him last week.

A Delhi Police team had visited Daati's ashram in Pali, Rajasthan, to gather evidence on Saturday. The team, which failed to find the 'godman' at the ashram, was accompanied by the rape survivor. The police team members spent about six hours in the ashram and checked records related to boarders of the Aashvasan Bal Gram Sansthan.

Meanwhile, rumours had been doing the rounds that there were about 800 girls enrolled with the institution, of whom about 600 have gone missing. “We did not find them missing as many of them have left for home during summer vacation," the official said.

The woman had filed a complaint last week against Daati Maharaj at the Fatehpur Beri police station in south Delhi. The case was later transferred to the Crime Branch. The woman alleged that she was sexually abused at Daati Maharaj’s ashrams in Delhi and Rajasthan and also named two male disciples of the godman in her complaint.
