The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially postponed the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET-UG) 2026 examinations originally scheduled for May 28. The deferment affects candidates appearing in both the first and second shifts across the country. According to the apex testing body, the decision was taken following a change in the official public holiday schedule for Eid Ul Azha (Bakrid).
In a public notice issued late Sunday evening, the NTA specified that the adjustment follows a notification from the Government of India. Specifically, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued an office memorandum on May 22, 2026, revising the holiday date for Bakra Eid, which necessitated the realignment of the national-level entrance test. "In light of the DoPT notification regarding the change in the date of the holiday on account of Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakrid), the CUET (UG) 2026 examinations scheduled to be held on 28.05.2026 in both shifts stand postponed," the NTA stated in its official communication. The testing agency has confirmed that revised examination dates for the affected candidates will be announced separately in due course. The ongoing computer-based tests (CBT), which commenced earlier this month on May 13, are scheduled to run through early June. Outside of the affected May 28 slots, all other subject papers are proceeding according to their pre-announced schedules.
Candidates impacted by the postponement have been advised by authorities to monitor official portals—specifically the NTA corporate site (nta.ac.in) and the dedicated CUET-UG platform (cuet.nta.nic.in)-for immediate updates regarding their fresh examination shifts and revised admit cards. To minimize confusion and the spread of misinformation, the NTA has instructed students to rely strictly on notifications posted on its verified web channels.
