The Rajasthan University is undergoing with their admission procedures for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, 2018-19. Last month, the university released the cut-off list for the UG courses in its constituent colleges. But the students under Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are finding hard to get admissions into their preferred undergraduate courses because of percentile formula. The RU follows a process which gives preference to the state board over CBSE students. To what is claimed as an ‘equivalence method’ based on comparative percentiles of Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) and CBSE approved by the state government has majorly gone in favour of the state board students.

A recent report by TOI reveals that the colleges under Rajasthan University released a 10 per cent lower cut-off marks for RBSE than the one announced for CBSE students in various undergrad courses. In 2014, Rajasthan introduced the percentile formula, and it was since then that CBSE students’ enrolment in state colleges decreased consecutively. In Maharani College, as per the second cut-off list, out of 7,000 seats, only 77 have been given to CBSE students, and the authorities do not wish to exceed the number to a hundred.

Amita Sharma, principal of University Rajasthan College, was quoted in the same report as saying, “Having students from various boards helps in boosting confidence level and exposure of the batch. Also, CBSE students are well versed in English, while most state board students largely study in Hindi medium schools.” Now, to promote the same, colleges want to host a common entrance test instead to undergo a fair enrolment process and allow students from several educational boards. In an earlier report, it was pointed that few colleges cut-offs in Rajasthan were way too high than even colleges under Delhi University or Jawaharlal Nehru University.
