On Sunday, Bhopal Police paraded four men, accused of gang-raping a 20-year old girl in the busy streets of the city. In an attempt to publicly humiliate the offenders, police not only made them parade, but they had to do sit-ups in the public and were slapped by women. As per reports, Bhopal Police has started this new trend of publicly humiliating them, which they believe will instill fear among the criminals.

According to ANI report, the girl was gang-raped after being abducted from MP Nagar by two youths in Bhopal. The incident had taken place at around 10 PM on Saturday night. Police said one of the accused was a friend of the victim. According to the victim's complaint, she was invited by her senior in college. The two had a fight over some issue after which the accused Shailendra snatched her cell phone and took her to his friend Sonu Dangi's room near Apsara cinema.

Reports highlight that, the other accused of the heinous crime, Sonu Dangi (21), Dhiraj Rajput (26) and Chiman Rajput (25) were already present in the room, according to the complaint. After they raped, they even threatened to kill her and her family, if she goes to disclose the incident to anyone. The four accused are booked for gang-rape and IPC sections 376 (rape), 376 (d) (gang-rape) and 365 (kidnapping) charged are pressed against them. We hope that this name and shame tactics employed by the Bhopal Police will help to curb crimes against women in the city.
