As per a recent report, more than 2,000 people succumb to mishaps related to electricity every year with most of them occurring in the rainy season. In the most recent, two people were electrocution in separate incidents in Thane district of Maharashtra during the monsoon. In a similar case, a video has been doing rounds on social media which shows a woman touching a splintered electric pole lying near a waterlogged road. In the clip, the woman can be seen lying after suffering an electric shock, the passerby tries to help but in vain. With the arrival of monsoon, the possibility of accidents related to electricity also increases. Rainfall and storm can cause electric safety hazards and may lead to severly damage health or loss of life or property.

Here are some safety tips to prevent electricity-related incidents in monsoon:

  • Do not use electricity poles as support or lean on them.
  • Try to stay away from waterlogged areas.
  • Do not tie clothesline ropes to electric poles. Avoid parking cars and bikes by their side.
  • Avoid fallen poles and power lines.
  • Avoid using ladders or rods made of metal close to electric poles.
  • In case of any electric work take help of an electrician.
  • Do not operate electrical appliances with wet hands.

Meanwhile, rain and electricity are both important part of daily lives but if not managed properly they can become dangerous. If found any poles or electric wires lying down, kindly inform the municipal corporation or concern person.
