The 8th Central Pay Commission wrapped up a two-day consultation in Chandigarh on September 18, with nurse associations pressing for Level 10 entry-level pay, a 3.25 fitment factor, and enhanced allowances affecting over three lakh healthcare workers nationwide.

Representing personnel across Central Government hospitals, AIIMS, PGI, and ESIC facilities via the All India NPS Employees Federation (AINEF), associations expressed optimism following the engagement, reports Moneycontrol.

Key Core Demands for Nursing Cadres

  • Pay Scale parity: Level 10 entry-level pay for nursing officers, citing upgraded BSc Nursing criteria and alignment with Military Nursing Service recommendations.
  • Fitment & Increments: PGIMER nurses have requested a 3.25 fitment factor (up from 2.57 under the 7th CPC) and an annual increment rise from 3 per cent to 5 per cent of basic pay to reflect expanded clinical and digital record duties.
  • Allowances & Insurance: Dedicated Night Duty Allowance, Risk and Hardship Allowance under the R1H1 matrix, comprehensive term/health insurance, and a threefold increase in Nursing, Dress, and Special Allowances.

"A crucial and highly productive meeting was conducted today between the representatives of the Nurses Welfare Association and the 8th Pay Commission. We remain highly optimistic about achieving favourable results when the final report of the 8th Pay Commission is officially announced,” the Nurses Welfare Association (NWA) stated.
