A 54-year-old woman was allegedly bitten by a pet German Shepherd in Ahmedabad's Vastral area, prompting police to register a complaint against the dog's owner. The incident took place at Harbholapark Society, Division 2, on September 4. The woman has also alleged that the same dog had bitten her in a similar incident around four months earlier.

According to the complaint, the woman, identified as Kapilaben Mahendrabhai Prajapati, was sweeping outside her house at around 5:30 pm on September 4. She stepped out to dispose of garbage when she noticed that the gate of her neighbour Dharmishthaben Dineshbhai Prajapati's house was open.

The German Shepherd allegedly came out through the open gate and bit Kapilaben on her right wrist, leaving her injured. Kalyan Dog Bite: Dr Sandeep Pagare Gets Show-Cause Notice for Claiming 110-130 People Bitten by Stray Dog.

Kapilaben's daughter Purvi was at home at the time. She immediately called 108 for assistance, following which Kapilaben was taken to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's Community Health Centre near Jadeshwar-2. She received treatment and was later discharged.

Woman Claims Same German Shepherd Attacked Her Earlier

Kapilaben alleged in her complaint that the September 4 incident was not the first time she had been bitten by the dog.

She claimed that around four months earlier, the same German Shepherd had bitten her on her right thigh and knee area, as well as above the wrist of her left hand. How 15-Year-Old Mirzapur Boy, Who Started ‘Barking’, Defied Final-Stage Rabies.

The woman further alleged that adequate precautions were not taken after the earlier incident to prevent the dog from posing a risk to people living nearby.

She accused the dog's owner of negligence, claiming that the house gate was left open and allowed the German Shepherd to come outside and attack her.

AMC Team Inspects German Shepherd, Checks Vaccination Records

Following the complaint, a joint team from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's CNCD department's Dog Complaint Cell inspected the location on September 5.

The team included a veterinary doctor, a sub-inspector, a dog catcher and SRP police personnel. During the inspection, the dog owner reportedly produced the German Shepherd's vaccination certificate.

According to the certificate, the dog was vaccinated on September 30, 2025, and the vaccination was valid until September 30, 2026.

AMC records also show that the dog was registered under Registration No. CNCDP/2025-26/6099. The registration was completed on May 27, 2025, after a fee of INR 200 was paid.

FIR Registered Against Ahmedabad Dog Owner

Based on Kapilaben's complaint, Ramol Police Station registered an FIR against dog owner Dharmishthaben Dineshbhai Prajapati.

The complaint alleges that the owner failed to take adequate precautions while keeping the pet, resulting in the woman being injured in the alleged dog attack.

Police have initiated further legal proceedings and are investigating the allegations. The dog's vaccination and registration documents were also examined during the AMC inspection.

The case has also raised concerns about pet owners' responsibility to ensure that dogs are properly secured, particularly in residential areas where other residents may be exposed to the risk of attacks.
