Lucknow, December 16: The Allahabad University (AU) in Uttar Pradesh on Monday postponed all semester examinations which were scheduled for the day (December 16) to maintain law and order amid protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). According to a report by Hindustan Times, the AU has also suspended all classes announcing closure of the central varsity for a day on Monday. The University was closed on Monday after students announced their decision to stage a protest on Monday afternoon. Confirming the move, AU PRO Chitranjan Kumar stated that all semester exams that were scheduled for December 16 have been postponed and will now be held on January 10, 2020.

Earlier on Monday, violence erupted at the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow. In the last week, the University of Allahabad had issued a circular to the women residents of the university hostel not to participate in any "dharna or protest" in view the protests raging in several parts of the country against the CAA.

Several universities including Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi and Nadwa college in Lucknow have witnessed widespread protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, which was passed in the Rajya Sabha last week. Meanwhile, students of Moulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in Hyderabad continued their protests on Monday in solidarity with the students of the Jamia Millia Islamia University.
