Wing Commander Amandeep Singh Dihot, VM (G) (Retd.), who took part in Operation Sindoor and was awarded the Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) for strikes on Pakistani targets, spoke exclusively to Firstpost at India’s Drone Expo 2026 in New Delhi. The retired Indian Air Force officer discussed his experiences during the May 2025 operation and also spoke about how he has turned into a drone maker with his company, Stellar Invictus.

Background on the Officer and Award

Dihot, from Rajpura in Punjab’s Patiala district, is a third-generation air warrior. His father, Group Captain (Retd.) Kanwaljeet Singh Dihot, served as a fighter pilot, and his grandfather, Warrant Officer Mohinder Singh Dihot, also served in the IAF. Operation Sindoor 1st Anniversary: 6 Pillars of the Anti-Terror Strike in Pakistan.

Speaking to First Post, Wing Commander Amandeep Singh Dihot, VM (G) (Retd), said that he retired from the service this year. "I just recently retired this year in May. I completed my short service of 14 years," he said. Dihot also said that he was a fighter pilot before moving on to unmanned systems, the drones which the air force has.

Dihot also spoke about Operation Sindoor and said that he conducted a lot of missions. He also said that he was awarded the Vayu Seva Medal (Gallantry) by the President. "I decided to work on a lot of solutions to certain problems which personally i could face...that's how Stellar Invictus came to be," Dihot said. Dihot is currently the founder of Stellar Invictus, which makes Anti-drone and Counter-UAS systems like interceptor drones and drone-jamming guns. As per the website, Dihot has over 200 live air-to-air and surface-to-air weapon launches and 14 years of active fighter service flights.
