Mumbai, April 1: A stray dog was allegedly beaten to death inside a housing society in Thane district, prompting police to register a case against unidentified persons, officials said on Wednesday, March 1. The incident occurred on Sunday night in Bhoirwadi, Kalyan, where the animal was later found dead in the parking area with visible signs of a struggle.

Videos circulating on social media reportedly show individuals carrying sticks inside the residential premises around the time of the incident. Police from the Khadakpada station have begun an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved. Animal Cruelty in Baghpat: Man Forces Stray Dog To Drink Alcohol in Uttar Pradesh, Arrested After Disturbing Video Goes Viral.

]The case was registered following a complaint by a local animal feeder. Representatives of the Plants and Animals Welfare Society (PAWS) also approached the police, seeking action. Authorities have invoked relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Officials said efforts are underway to identify the accused based on available video evidence and surveillance footage.

The incident comes shortly after another complaint was filed in the same housing society. In a separate incident earlier this year, two unidentified men were booked for allegedly killing a stray dog in Mumbai’s Jogeshwari West area.

According to police, the men allegedly assaulted the dog with bamboo sticks near Ajit Glass Garden and later dumped it in a drain. Local residents who witnessed the incident rushed the animal to a veterinary clinic, where it was declared dead.

An FIR was registered by Oshiwara police based on a complaint from an eyewitness, who said she could identify the attackers. Authorities have launched a manhunt, and further investigation is ongoing.
