Guwahati, January 16: In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old male nurse allegedly assaulted three women patients at the B Barooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) in Assam’s Guwahati on the night of December 31. Police arrested the accused on Wednesday. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the accused has been identified as Kamal Kanti Sen Choudhury, a resident of Belonia in Tripura. A case has been registered under sections 354A, 376 (2) (E) and 511 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). “Following complaints from the patients to the hospital superintendent, a case was lodged and efforts were undertaken to nab the culprit. He was arrested in Tripura on Sunday,” reported Hindustan Times quoting inspector Dharani Barman, in-charge of Paltanbazar police station as saying. The accused had resigned from his post at the institute on January 8.

In a similar incident, a minor girl who was admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Bareilly was allegedly gang-raped by a hospital staffer and four unidentified men. The victim narrated her ordeal after she was shifted to the general ward. As per reports, the girl was admitted to the hospital after she was bitten by a snake and was put on the ventilator in the ICU ward of the hospital, however, later was shifted to the general ward. It was then she informed others about the incident.
