New Delhi, August 1: The three-member mediation panel in the Ayodhya land dispute case has submitted their report in a sealed cover to the Supreme Court on Thursday. A Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi will hear the case on August 2. The mediation panel comprises of former top court judge FMI Kalifulla, Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior Advocate Sriram Panchu.

This development comes after the apex court on July 18 had asked the mediation committee on Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute to submit a report on the progress made till July 31. The bench comprising of CJI Gogoi and Justices DY Chandrachud, SA Bobde, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer will take a call on Friday on whether a hearing is required in the matter.

The mediation panel was formed by Supreme Court to explore options of an out-of-court settlement, as litigation on Ayodhya disputed land involves sentiments of two religious communities. Verdict in Case Involving LK Advani, MM Joshi And Other BJP Leaders Must be Delivered Within 9 Months, Orders SC.

Fourteen appeals are pending in the Supreme Court conflicting the decision of 2010 Allahabad High Court verdict which directed equal distribution of the 2.77 acre land in Ayodhya among the Nirmohi Akhara, Sunni Waqf Board and Ram Lalla.
