Bengaluru, January 30: A morning walk turned into a medical emergency for a resident of a luxury apartment complex in Bengaluru after she was brutally attacked by a neighbour's pet dog. The victim, identified as a middle-aged woman, reportedly sustained deep lacerations and required 50 stitches to close her wounds.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, January 29, has been captured on CCTV and has since sparked a renewed debate regarding pet ownership laws and the safety of residents in high-rise societies. Dog Attack in Karnataka: Woman Dies After Being Brutally Attacked by 2 Rottweilers in Davanagere; Owner of Dogs Arrested.

The attack took place within the premises of an apartment complex in the Whitefield area. According to eyewitnesses and hospital reports, the woman was walking in the common area when a Pitbull, which was reportedly on a leash at the time, lunged at her. Despite the owner’s attempts to restrain the animal, the dog overpowered them, resulting in a prolonged and violent struggle.

CCTV video of the incident shows the victim attempting to distance herself from the dog before it suddenly pounces. The woman was rushed to a nearby private hospital in critical pain. Medical staff confirmed that the injuries were extensive, particularly on her limbs, necessitating emergency surgery. While she is currently in stable condition, doctors have noted that the recovery process will be long due to the depth of the bite marks and the high risk of infection.

The incident has caused significant unrest within the housing society. Residents have raised concerns over the presence of aggressive breeds in common areas and have questioned whether the owner had followed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) guidelines for pet management.

"This is not the first time concerns have been raised about this particular dog," one neighbor claimed. Many residents are now demanding that the society management implement stricter rules, including mandatory muzzles for specific breeds and restricted walking hours.

While the victim’s family has expressed intent to file a police complaint, the BBMP’s Animal Husbandry department has been alerted to the situation. Under current Bengaluru civic bylaws, pet owners are legally responsible for any injury caused by their animals. This includes the potential for criminal charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for negligence.
