A minor dispute over the use of an outdoor water tap escalated into a fatal tragedy in east Bengaluru, where a paying guest (PG) accommodation owner was brutally beaten to death by two young men. Matle Madhavan, a resident of OMBR Layout on Kasturinagar Main Road, succumbed to severe head injuries at a private hospital within 90 minutes of the attack, which occurred outside his property on Monday evening. The incident began around 4:00 PM when two local youths, identified by police as Rakesh (21) of Cox Town and Don Brite Son (20) of Jeevanahalli, allegedly entered the parking area of Lakshmi Narasimha Gents PG without permission to wash their legs.

When a family member questioned their presence, a verbal confrontation ensued. Madhavan’s wife, Sunita, intervened to defuse the situation, prompting the youths to leave after shouting threats. Believing the matter had concluded, the family was alarmed when the two youths returned to the street outside the PG accommodation around 6:30 PM. Madhavan, who had been out during the initial argument, went outside to confront them. Triple Murder in Bengaluru: Parents and Daughter Stabbed to Death in Sigehalli; Probe Underway.

According to eyewitness statements recorded by the police, the interaction quickly turned aggressive, with the suspects issuing explicit death threats before physical violence erupted. In an effort to defend himself and drive the intruders away, Madhavan retrieved a cricket bat from his home. However, the two youths quickly overpowered him on the street, snatched the bat, and used it to launch a severe assault. Even after Madhavan collapsed, the attackers continued to rain blows on his head and body. Family members frantically intervened, eventually stopping the assault by physically placing themselves between the attackers and the victim.

Before losing consciousness and being rushed to the hospital, a heavily bleeding Madhavan spoke briefly with his wife and 10-year-old son, Mahesh. He assured them he would return after receiving stitches and instructed them to file a formal police complaint using their building's CCTV footage. The Ramamurthynagar police have registered a case and took both suspects into custody shortly after the incident. While the victim's family expressed suspicions that the attackers may have been under the influence of illegal substances due to the aggressive nature of the assault, police officials confirmed that subsequent medical reports ruled out the consumption of cannabis. Both accused individuals have been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.
