The accused has been identified as Amit Ramdavan Prajapati, a resident of Kasheli. According to police reports, Prajapati allegedly subjected the minor student to prolonged sexual abuse while issuing continuous threats to silence the family and prevent them from seeking legal intervention. The case came to light after the survivor's family disclosed that Prajapati offered them ₹6 lakh in cash to stop them from approaching law enforcement. Facing pressure and intimidation, the family sought assistance from social activist Dr. Binu Varghese, who brought the matter to senior police officials.
Following the intervention, the Narpoli Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) charging Prajapati under stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for s*xual assault and criminal intimidation, as well as relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police officials noted that attempting to bribe or threaten victims to suppress cases of child sexual abuse constitutes independent criminal offenses of evidence tampering and obstructing justice. Prajapati remains in police custody and will be produced before a local magistrate court for remand proceedings as investigators work to gather further evidence.
