A 32-year-old orchestra dancer was shot dead during a wedding celebration in Bihar's Gopalganj district after allegedly refusing to accompany a group of guests and dance according to their wishes. Police have identified the suspects, registered an FIR against five named accused and launched raids to arrest those involved in the killing. The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. in Patohwa village under the Kateya police station area, where a wedding ceremony was underway, as reported by TOI. The bridegroom's procession had arrived from Uttar Pradesh, and an orchestra performance had been organised as part of the celebrations.

Ramnarayan Yadav, owner of the orchestra troupe, told police that after refusing the requests, Sonu left the stage and went to rest in a tent behind the wedding venue. Investigators said the three youths allegedly followed him and attempted to take him to a secluded spot. When Sonu resisted, one of the accused reportedly pulled out a pistol and shot him in the abdomen. The injured dancer collapsed at the scene and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Kateya police station SHO Awadhesh Kumar said an FIR has been registered against five named accused. Raids are underway to arrest the three primary suspects allegedly involved in the murder, while investigators continue to examine the motive behind the crime. The victim's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
Family members said Sonu had been supporting his household through orchestra performances. He is survived by his wife, three young children and a younger brother, all of whom were financially dependent on him.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of performers at public functions and prompted calls for stricter security arrangements at large social gatherings. The investigation is ongoing, and police have said further action will be taken as more evidence is gathered.
