Aishwarya Gowda, daughter of Karnataka BJP MLA B Suresh Gowda, has apologised to Police Sub-Inspector Savitha B Patil over the altercation at the Aarathi Ukkada temple in Mandya district on August 12. In a self-recorded video, Aishwarya said the incident happened during the Bhimana Amavasya rush when she had visited the temple with her two young children.

The apology comes amid an ongoing case related to the confrontation. A court in Srirangapatna rejected Aishwarya's anticipatory bail plea on August 31, according to reports, while police continued investigating the case.

In the video, Aishwarya said she visited the temple on August 12 with her two children. She said the temple was crowded with devotees and that she wanted to complete darshan quickly because she was accompanied by the children. According to her account, an argument broke out with PSI Savitha Patil, who was deployed for security and crowd management. Aishwarya described the confrontation as an incident that occurred in a moment of heightened emotions. She said the incident should not have happened and expressed regret over the episode.

"If PSI Savitha Patil was hurt during the incident, I unconditionally apologise for what happened," Aishwarya said in the video, according to the statement shared on X.

The confrontation took place at the Aarathi Ukkada/Maramma temple in Mandya's Srirangapatna area during Bhimana Amavasya celebrations. A large number of devotees had gathered at the temple.

According to PSI Savitha's complaint, Aishwarya sought to enter the sanctum sanctorum without waiting in the queue. Savitha allegedly asked her to wait because of the heavy crowd. The disagreement subsequently escalated into an altercation.

Aishwarya also filed a counter-complaint alleging that the police officer abused her. Police said the allegations in the counter-complaint were being examined.

CCTV Footage Emerged After the Mandya Temple Incident

CCTV footage of the confrontation later surfaced. Reports said the footage showed Aishwarya and Savitha involved in a physical altercation, after which people at the spot intervened and separated them. The footage added to the attention around the case, which involves the daughter of a sitting BJP MLA and a police officer who was on duty at the temple.

FIR Registered Against Aishwarya Gowda

Following Savitha's complaint, an FIR was registered against Aishwarya at Kyathanahalli Police Station under Sections 132, 115(2), 352 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The provisions relate, among other things, to assault or criminal force against a public servant, causing hurt, intentional insult and criminal intimidation. Aishwarya's anticipatory bail plea was subsequently rejected by the III Additional District and Sessions Court in Srirangapatna on August 31, according to a September 3 report.

Suresh Gowda Had Earlier Apologised

BJP MLA B Suresh Gowda had earlier apologised publicly over his daughter's conduct. He said Aishwarya had gone to the temple with two young children and claimed that the dispute began after she was stopped from entering the sanctum while another officer was allowed inside.

Gowda said that people in public life should exercise restraint and that he was prepared to apologise if his daughter was at fault. Aishwarya's latest video now marks a direct apology to PSI Savitha Patil, while the legal proceedings related to the August 12 incident remain separate from the apology.
