BRICS Summit From September 11 to 13

India is hosting the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi as part of its 2026 BRICS chairship. The main leaders’ summit is scheduled for September 12 and 13 at Bharat Mandapam, while associated events are being held around the broader September 11-13 programme. The gathering is expected to bring several heads of government and senior delegations to the capital, requiring extensive arrangements for their movement, accommodation and security.

Security and Traffic Preparations Intensified

Delhi authorities have already stepped up preparations for the summit. Security arrangements have been strengthened around key hotels where visiting dignitaries and delegates are expected to stay, while traffic management plans are being implemented along important routes. UAE Participates in 2026 BRICS Trade Ministers Meeting in Jaipur.

The Delhi Traffic Police has identified multiple diversion points and issued advisories ahead of motorcade rehearsals and the summit. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use alternative routes or public transport where possible.

Central Government Offices Also Closed

Separately, the Centre has ordered all Central Government offices located in Delhi and New Delhi to remain closed on September 11. The Ministry of Personnel said the decision takes into account the scale of the BRICS Summit and the logistical arrangements required to host the event, while also seeking to minimise inconvenience to the public. The coordinated closure of central and Delhi government offices is expected to help reduce traffic volumes in parts of the capital during a period of heightened security and movement restrictions.

India’s BRICS Chairship

India assumed the BRICS chairship for 2026 and is hosting the grouping’s 18th summit in New Delhi. The official BRICS programme lists the summit as a major event of India’s year-long chairship.
