Kite Stuck on Electricity Pole Leads to Tragedy

According to police, Ahad had gone to his grandfather's house in Burj Usman village to play. While flying a kite on the rooftop, the kite became stuck on an electricity pole carrying an 11 kV high-tension line. The boy reportedly tried to retrieve it using an iron rod, which came into contact with the power line.

The current passed through the rod, causing severe electrocution. Witnesses said sparks and smoke emerged from the pole as the child suffered electric shock and began screaming.

After seeing his grandson in distress, Israr rushed to help him. Police said he attempted to pull the boy away with his bare hands but was also struck by the powerful electric current. The child was thrown away from the point of contact, while Israr collapsed unconscious.

Family members rushed both of them to a hospital. Doctors declared Israr dead on arrival, while Ahad, who suffered critical injuries, was referred to a higher medical facility, where he remains under treatment.

Khurja Station House Officer Ramphal Singh confirmed that the elderly man died while trying to save the child after he came into contact with the high-voltage line.

Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination. Further action will be taken after the report is received, the officer said.

Ahad's father, Abrar (35), works at a pottery manufacturing unit, and the family lives in Burj Usman village. Ahad studies in Class 3 at a private school and has two younger siblings. According to family members, he had gone to visit his grandfather when the accident occurred.
