A 38-year-old man and his sister died after being attacked by a wild bear in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district on Wednesday, August 5, according to forest officials. Another sister of the victims sustained injuries during the afternoon incident, which occurred in a field within Largaon Markatola village under the Narharpur forest range.

The victims were identified by forest officials as Halal Khor Jurri (38) and his 40-year-old sister, Chamrin Bai, reports PTI. Their injured sister, 30-year-old Khorin Bai, was transported to a hospital in Kanker for treatment. Following reports of the attack, forest department personnel were deployed to the location. According to local residents, the animal involved was a female bear that had reportedly grown aggressive following the death of one of her cubs on Tuesday, August 4. Villagers reported that the bear remained near the victims' bodies and continued to claw at them even after the attack. A video purportedly showing the animal near the site has since circulated on social media.
Official Response and Public Advisory
Kanker MLA Asharam Netam visited the location following the incident. He noted that the bear was still present near the bodies when forest officials arrived at the scene. Authorities have issued warnings to local residents, advising them to stay away from the affected area as forest personnel monitor the situation.
