The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) today, July 25, announced the immediate withdrawal of its weeks-long protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, stating that all its demands had been accepted following talks with the central government. National spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka appealed to demonstrators to disperse peacefully and return home.

Ranka made the announcement at a press interaction after the latest round of discussions. "All our demands have been accepted, so we request the protesters to withdraw immediately and return home peacefully. We will inform you of our future strategy or any other issues. Key Outcomes of the Talks With Government

The agreement covers compensation for families of NEET aspirants affected by the paper leak and related issues, with the government indicating honorary compensation of INR 1 crore under applicable rules. It also includes dropping existing FIRs against protesters and assurances against future legal action related to the agitation. CJP submitted a five-point charter seeking broader educational and examination reforms. A follow-up meeting is planned in about four weeks to discuss implementation.

Dharmendra Pradhan Tenders Resignation

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan separately announced he had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a statement, Pradhan said the step was taken so that the situation at Jantar Mantar and elsewhere would not be exploited by anti-national forces, national unity would be preserved, students’ futures would not be entangled in legal issues, and young people could focus on studies and careers. Pradhan’s resignation addressed one of the protesters’ central demands. He noted that the government had earlier cancelled the NEET-UG exam after irregularities, handed the probe to the CBI, scheduled a re-examination, and planned a shift to computer-based testing from the following year.

Background to the Agitation

CJP originated as an online satirical response in mid-May 2026 to a remark by the Chief Justice of India comparing certain unemployed youth to “cockroaches". It quickly mobilised around anger over alleged paper leaks and irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) and other exams. Protests at Jantar Mantar began in June and continued for over a month, drawing students, young professionals and supporters. Activist Sonam Wangchuk joined with a hunger strike. A large march toward Parliament on July 20 led to clashes with police. Multiple rounds of talks with ministers, including JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, preceded Saturday’s announcement. The withdrawal ends the sit-in at the protest site. CJP leaders indicated they would share further details on strategy and the reform charter in the coming weeks.
