New Delhi, October 26: In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by an unidentified man in Delhi during the Valmiki Jayanti procession on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Avinash Sangwan, a dance teacher who was shot at close range in the chest. According to the initial investigation, the victim had alleged mocked the dance steps of one of the accused, police said.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the incident happened in central Delhi at 11:30 pm. Avinash was with his friend Nikhil, also a dance instructor, who told police that they were dancing outside Valmiki temple at the Mandir Marg to mark the Valmiki Jayanti. He further added that Avinash mocked the dance steps of a stranger, who was a well-built man. The man came towards them and pushed Avinash angrily. Nikhil in his police complaint said the stranger returned with his two friends and joined them in dance. Suddenly, he heard a gunshot and saw Avinash bleeding. They helped Avinash remove the t-shirt and found him bleeding from the right side of his chest. Before they could make any sense of the situation, Avinash collapsed. He was then rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where the doctors declared him dead. The police complaint has been registered against the unidentified people under the various sections of IPC.
