Dehradun: Masked Men Attempt to Abduct Woman; Police Form Teams to Trace Accused

Two masked men allegedly attempted to abduct a 46-year-old woman on Sahastradhara Road in Dehradun’s Raipur area, prompting police to launch an investigation and form three teams to identify and arrest the suspects. The incident took place around 6.45 am on Wednesday when the woman was returning home on her two-wheeler after dropping her daughter at college, police said. The suspects were travelling in a black hatchback that had no registration number and displayed an “applied for” sticker.
Woman Rescued After Raising Alarm
According to police, the two men intercepted the woman and allegedly attempted to pull her into their vehicle. Several women sanitation workers who were in the area noticed the incident and rushed to help her. The suspects then fled from the spot. The incident was also captured on CCTV footage. Three Police Teams Formed
Raipur Circle Officer Vandana Verma said three teams have been constituted to identify and arrest the suspects. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to establish the route taken by the vehicle and trace the black hatchback. Investigators are also working to determine the identities of the two men. “We have made significant progress and are hopeful of arresting the accused within the next two days,” Verma told The Times of India.
No Known Dispute Reported
Police have questioned the woman as part of the investigation. According to Verma, she has not reported any known dispute or issue with someone that could explain why she may have been targeted. Case Registered Under BNS Sections
A case has been registered under Sections 126(2), relating to wrongful restraint; 140, concerning kidnapping; and 62, relating to an attempt to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation remains underway, with police focusing on CCTV footage and other available evidence to identify the suspects and locate the vehicle.
