Delhi, October 25: With Diwali approaching, the air pollution in the city has deteriorated and there aren't any signs of improvement. According to Quality Index (AQI) data, the major pollutants PM 2.5 at 247 in the 'Moderate' category and PM 10 at 243 in the 'Poor' category, in Lodhi Road area on Friday.

On Thursday, twenty of the 37 air quality monitoring stations recorded pollution levels in the "very poor" category. SAFAR, as quoted in the PTI report, said, "The overall air quality of Delhi is in the "very poor" category. The decrease in wind speed has started to negatively influence Delhi's air quality by drastically decreasing ventilation coefficients and thereby effecting dispersion."Delhi Air Pollution: AQI Dips to 'Poor' Category in Lodhi Road Ahead of Diwali 2019.

The air quality in between had slightly improved, but not majorly. The marginal improvement was attributed to the impact of the easterlies that have reduced the impact of the northwesterlies which have been bringing the biomass from stubble burning in the neighbouring states to Delhi. High deterioration in AQI is expected in the first week of November now.

From November, the Arvind Kejriwal government will implement the odd-even traffic rule to keep control of the pollution level. We will have to wait and watch to see if it will be able to do the needful.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".
