New Delhi, October 15: In another incident of cyber fraud, a 70-year-old retired Squadron Leader of the Indian Air Force (IAF) was duped of Rs 1.5 lakh. According to a report published in The Times of India, The retired IAF officer, Sqr Ldr (R) Harish Gupta on Friday got fifteen messages of withdrawal of Rs 10,000 each from his debit card within a span of 10 minutes. The retired defence personnel was at his home at South Delhi’s Sarai Neb when he received messages. Sqn Ldr (R) Gupta claimed that he had used the debit at least a month ago. The retired IAF officer approached the police after he figured out that his card was cloned. The Police have registered an FIR in the case. According to the report, the victim after receiving the second message called the bank to block the card, but he was asked to contact the nearest branch which was at Saket. By the time his card was blocked 15 transactions of Rs 10,000 each had already been made. The retired defence personnel submitted the copy of the FIR in the bank. The police have started an investigation into the case.
In a similar incident in August, a woman corporate trainer from Pune was cheated of over Rs one lakh. The victim, Archana Jaiswal complaint with police alleging that Rs 1,22,400 was fraudulently withdrawn from her account through multiple transactions. She came to know about the fraud through mobile text messages of the transactions. Jaiswal received three messages on her phone about transactions worth Rs 90,000, Rs 5,400 and Rs 27,000 on August 28 around 1 am.
