Delhi HC to Hear Woman’s Plea Accusing CJP Leaders of Morphing, Circulating Her Photos With PM Modi

The Delhi High Court on Friday agreed to urgently hear a woman's plea alleging that her photograph was digitally manipulated and displayed alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar. The woman has accused CJP leaders Saurav Das, Abhijit Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Ratna Singh of being involved in the alleged use and circulation of the morphed image.

The development comes a day after Delhi Police registered an FIR at its Cyber Police Station following the woman's complaint. Police said the case was registered on September 24 under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Woman Alleges Photo Was AI-Morphed During CJP Protest

According to the complaint, the woman alleged that her personal photograph was used without her consent and manipulated using AI-based face-swapping tools. She alleged that her face was superimposed onto an image involving PM Modi and that the resulting picture was printed on banners and displayed during the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar. She further alleged that the image was subsequently circulated online. The complaint names CJP functionaries Saurav Das, Abhijit Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Ratna Singh, alleging that they and others were responsible for obtaining and using her photographs.

Delhi Police Registers FIR in AI Image Case

Delhi Police registered the FIR at the Cyber Police Station in New Delhi on September 24. Officials said the investigation is underway. The FIR was registered against unidentified individuals, according to The Tribune, while the complaint reportedly names the four CJP functionaries. This distinction means that the allegations against the named individuals remain part of the complaint and investigation and should not be treated as established criminal liability. CJP Protest and Earlier AI-Content Controversy

The allegations come amid a series of controversies involving the CJP and digitally generated content. Earlier this month, CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka agreed before the Delhi High Court to remove AI-generated social media posts concerning BJP leader and senior advocate Gaurav Bhatia. The court recorded their undertaking to take down the posts and allowed Bhatia to approach Meta and X regarding identical posts in the future.

The latest case, however, concerns a woman's allegation that her photograph was manipulated and used during a CJP protest, with the matter now under police investigation and set to come before the Delhi High Court for urgent hearing.
