New Delhi, June 29: A Delhi Police sub-inspector has been removed from active field duty and attached to District Lines after a CCTV video allegedly showing him slapping a woman during a police intervention at a hotel in Delhi's Adarsh Nagar went viral on social media.
The incident reportedly took place around 1.30 am on Thursday at Cloud Inn Hotel in the Panchwati area after police received a PCR call regarding a clash between two groups of women. SI Himanshu, along with male and female police personnel, reached the hotel to intervene.
During the enquiry, police found that a woman identified as Anshu, who had travelled from West Bengal with three companions, had suffered a bleeding leg injury. She alleged that Roopa, a resident of Burari, and three associates assaulted her following a dispute over a financial transaction. According to CCTV footage, SI Himanshu was recording statements when he allegedly lost his temper and slapped one of the women, triggering a heated confrontation between the women and police personnel outside the hotel. Following the viral video, senior police officer Akanksha Yadav ordered a vigilance enquiry into the incident. In a post on X, DCP North-West Delhi said: "In connection with the above video, it is stated that a PCR call was received at PS Adarsh Nagar wherein the caller alleged that some women armed with firearms had come to kill her. Police immediately reached the spot and found that the dispute was over monetary issues and the allegations regarding firearms were found to be false.
During police proceedings, while questioning the persons involved regarding the false information, SI Himanshu lost his temper and is seen slapping one of the alleged in the video.
Disciplinary action is being initiated against SI Himanshu and he has been transferred to District Lines. A PG Enquiry has also been been initiated to examine the entire sequence of events. Further enquiry into the matter is in progress."
