Delhi Police Constable Shoots Teacher Wife Dead on Road After Midnight Argument, Flees

A Delhi Police constable allegedly shot his wife dead in the middle of a road in East Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area early Monday morning following a heated domestic dispute. The accused immediately fled the scene and remains at large. The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Priyanka, who worked as a teacher at a school in Ashok Vihar. The incident took place around 3:00 AM near the Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital.

According to police sources, the accused, identified as Constable Manish Bhati, is posted with the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of the Delhi Police's East district. The couple, who had been married for three years and resided in Vinod Nagar, had a history of frequent marital discord. CCTV footage recovered by investigators shows the couple leaving their residence on a scooter around 2:00 AM. The footage indicates that Priyanka got off the scooter and the confrontation escalated. During the animated argument, Bhati allegedly drew his service pistol, shot his wife, and drove away, abandoning her on the roadside. A passing auto-rickshaw driver and a delivery worker discovered Priyanka lying in a pool of blood next to the road. With the assistance of a few bystanders, she was rushed to the nearby LBS Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

Preliminary inquiries with neighbors revealed that the couple quarreled frequently, including later Sunday evening just before they left the house. Priyanka’s family has also alleged that the couple faced ongoing disputes related to dowry demands, noting that she had previously lived with her brother for eight months following a major altercation in 2024. The Delhi Police have registered a case of murder and have formed multiple specialized teams to track down the absconding constable. Investigators are currently scanning extensive CCTV footage along the route to establish his escape path.
