Noida, October 19: Banning liquor sale is a part of elections in India, as the MCC (Model Code of Conduct) bars it for two days or 48-hour period ahead of the voting. Liquor outlets in the areas bordering Haryana, including the Noida and Greater Noida, will remain shut from October 19 to October 21. Voting for 90-member Haryana Assembly will take place on Monday. Similarly, the dry days will also be effective in several districts of Dehli, Rajasthan and Punjab close to Haryana border. “Assembly elections in Haryana are due on October 21 and hence liquor shops in Gautam Buddh Nagar will be shut down 48 hours prior to it, that is October 19. The liquor outlets within 8 km radius of Haryana border will also remain shut on the day of vote counting, which is October 24,” the order stated.

Meanwhile, the polling will begin on Monday at 7 am and continue till 6 pm. In Haryana, the main contest is between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP).
