A beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme in Maharashtra was left puzzled after receiving an SMS stating that just INR 0.01 had been credited to her account instead of the expected INR 2,000 installment. The Maharashtra Agriculture Department has since clarified that the message was caused by a technical glitch and confirmed that the full payment was successfully transferred.

The beneficiary, 65-year-old Lakshmibai from Jevanala village in Bhandara district, received the SMS earlier this week. According to officials, the error was limited to the notification and did not affect the actual transfer of funds.

Family Worried After Receiving INR 0.01 SMS

Lakshmibai's family initially feared that the PM-Kisan installment had not been credited. Speaking to news channels, her son Khemraj Girepunje said the family was surprised after the notification showed a credit of just INR 0.01 under the PM-Kisan scheme.

He added that the timing of the message increased their concern because they were depending on the installment to purchase seeds and fertilisers for the ongoing kharif cultivation season.

Agriculture Department Clarifies

The Maharashtra Agriculture Department addressed the issue soon after it came to light.

According to Bhandara District Agriculture Officer Sangita Mane, the SMS was generated due to a technical glitch, while official records confirmed that Lakshmibai's bank account had received the regular INR 2,000 installment.

Officials said the issue affected only the payment notification and not the actual transfer of money.

Why the Payment Is Important

The PM-Kisan scheme provides eligible farmers with INR 6,000 annually, distributed in three installments of INR 2,000 each.

The incident comes at a crucial time as farmers across Maharashtra begin purchasing seeds, fertilisers and other agricultural inputs for the kharif season.

For many beneficiaries, the installment serves as immediate financial support for cultivation expenses. Officials said that while the payment was successfully credited in this case, incorrect SMS notifications can create unnecessary confusion among farmers awaiting government assistance.
