Footage recorded by an action camera mounted on her motorcycle shows the car hitting the bike from the side. The impact threw Sia off the motorcycle and sent her skidding several metres across the road. Sia suffered injuries to her hands and legs but was reportedly protected to some extent by her riding gear. Her Aprilia RS 457 was damaged in the collision.
Hit-and-Run Video Went Viral
The original video recorded by Sia’s bike-mounted camera became widely circulated on social media. It shows the white car moving towards the motorcycle before the collision, after which Sia falls and slides along the road. A second video has also surfaced, recorded by another biker who was riding behind Sia. That footage provides a different angle of the incident and appears to show the car following the motorcycle before striking it.
The videos prompted Gurugram Police to take suo motu cognisance of the incident and register a case at Sector 56 police station.
Sia Rejects Bainsla’s Version
Before his arrest, Bainsla denied deliberately hitting Sia and described the collision as an accident. He claimed that he had been provoked by the bikers and said he feared being attacked if he stopped after the crash. Sia later released another video responding to his claims. She questioned why he had continued following her and, if he was genuinely concerned about her injuries, why he did not stop after the collision. She also maintained that the available videos clearly show what happened and rejected the suggestion that she or the other bikers were responsible for the collision.
Attempt-to-Murder Charge Added
The case initially involved charges related to rash driving and causing injury. After examining the available footage and other evidence, Gurugram Police added Section 109 of the BNS, relating to attempt to murder. The investigation is continuing, with police expected to examine the videos, statements from the biker group and other evidence to establish the exact sequence of events.
The car involved in the incident was reportedly registered in the name of a man from Haryana’s Palwal, who said he was serving in Assam at the time and was not driving the vehicle. He claimed that a friend had borrowed the car.
