An 11-year-old girl died during a Ganesh immersion procession in Damarapakam village of Nagari mandal in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district after her hair became caught in a rapidly rotating generator fan mounted on a tractor, according to reports. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Monday as the procession moved through the village.

The girl, identified as Prasannasri, daughter of J. Shankar, was a Class 5 student at the village government primary school, News18 Telugu reported. According to the report, a large generator had been installed on the tractor to provide electricity for decorative lights and a DJ sound system during the immersion procession.

While the tractor was moving, Prasannasri reportedly fell towards the generator fan. The loud DJ music reportedly made it difficult for people in the procession to hear her cries immediately. Her friends later noticed blood on the tractor and found the girl unconscious and seriously injured.

Family Rushes Girl To Hospital

Family members and villagers switched off the generator and rushed Prasannasri to a local hospital. Doctors reportedly advised that she be shifted to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati for further treatment. However, her condition deteriorated while she was being taken to Tirupati, and she died on the way.

The incident turned the celebrations into mourning as family members and villagers gathered after learning of her death. "Oh God.. what sin has our child committed? How can you sacrifice a child who was smiling so unjustly!" the girl's parents and relatives were heard saying, according to the report.

Following the incident, local police inspected the site and sent the girl's body for an autopsy. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances that led to the accident. Police have not, in the information provided, announced any arrests or charges arising from the incident.

The accident has also raised concerns over the use of generators on tractors during public celebrations. People in the area have reportedly questioned the installation of generators without protective shields around moving components, particularly when children and other members of the public are close to the vehicles.

The incident highlights the need for safety precautions around rotating machinery used during festival processions, including appropriate guards and measures to keep participants away from exposed moving parts.
