A 12-year-old boy has been taken into police custody for the alleged abduction and rape of a nine-month-old infant in the Gulariha police station area. The infant, who went missing from her home during the early hours of Saturday morning, June 20, is currently hospitalised in critical condition. According to law enforcement officials, the juvenile suspect admitted to consuming alcohol and viewing explicit adult content online shortly before committing the offence.
Abduction and Medical Emergency
The incident occurred around 2:00 AM on Saturday while the victim was sleeping next to her mother. Discovering her absence, family members initiated a search across the village and surrounding agricultural land. Family members immediately transported the infant to a local community health centre. As her medical condition rapidly deteriorated, doctors referred her to the Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College for specialised emergency treatment. A subsequent medical examination officially confirmed that the infant had been s*xually assaulted.
Investigation and Digital Evidence
During the preliminary investigation, police questioned the victim's immediate family, including her parents and grandparents. Suspicion eventually turned toward a 12-year-old male relative who had arrived at the village from Chandigarh three days before the incident. The minor was detained on Sunday. Investigators stated that after initially providing conflicting accounts, the suspect confessed to the crime. A forensic review of his mobile device revealed extensive digital consumption patterns immediately preceding the assault.
"After being taken into custody, the accused juvenile allegedly told police that he had consumed alcohol on Friday night and later watched pornographic content on his mobile phone before abducting the sleeping infant," an investigating official stated.
