Sonam Yadav Says Video Is AI-Generated

Yadav addressed the viral clip in an Instagram post, saying it was not her actual video and had been generated or manipulated using AI.

She wrote in the caption: "YE VIDEO MERI NHI H YE AI GENRATED H TO KRIPYA KRKE IS VIDEO K SATH MERI VIDEO KO ADD KRKE UPLOAD NA KIYA JAAYE OR JO BHI YEH KRTE HUE PAAYA GYA USPE JALDI SE JALDI KARYAVAHI KI JAYEGI OR POLICE CUSTODY M LIYA JAYEGA MENE IS CHEEJ KI COMPLAIN CYBER BRANCH M KRDI H TO KOI BHI GLTI SE ESI HARKAT NA KRE OR JIS KISI NE BHI PHLE SE UPLOAD KI HUI H UNPE JARUR ACTION LIYA JAYEGA TO VIDEO JITNA JLDI HO SKE DELETE KRDE …DHANYAWAD" Surabhi Reddy Viral Video: Is the 'Leaked MMS Clip' Real or Fake?

She urged people not to combine her original video with the manipulated clip or upload it again. She also asked those who had already shared the video to delete it.

A fact-check by BOOM found that the viral video had been digitally altered. Its investigation traced the original footage to a social-media post by Sonam Yadav. In the original video, Yadav is seen taking a dip in the Ganga while wearing a salwar. The clothing shown in the viral version is different from that in the original footage.

BOOM also compared frames from the viral and original videos and identified similarities in the woman's movements and the surrounding setting. It reported that an AI-detection tool also flagged manipulated elements in the viral clip.

The altered footage was circulated with posts claiming that it showed a woman bathing at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar while wearing a bikini or undergarments. The posts prompted discussions about conduct at religious sites, but the fact-check evidence indicates that the footage had been manipulated and did not accurately represent the original recording.

Asianet Newsable also examined the viral footage and reported that an earlier video showed a woman in a yellow outfit while bathing in the river. However, it noted that the identity of the woman in the manipulated clip and the exact location of that footage had not been independently verified.

Yadav's Instagram statement says she has complained to the cyber branch and wants action against people who continue to circulate the manipulated video. Her complaint comes as AI-generated and AI-altered videos become increasingly difficult to distinguish from authentic footage without examining the original source. The available fact-checking evidence shows that the viral video should not be treated as an authentic recording of Yadav bathing in the Ganga in the manner claimed online.
