Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was granted conditional bail by a Delhi court on October 17, 2026, while the party’s legal affairs head, Ratna Singh, expressed hope that co-leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka would also be released the following day. Singh said the remaining release formalities had been completed and the team was awaiting formal approval.

Speaking about the cases against Das and Ranka, Singh said procedural delays were holding up their release but maintained that the legal team was confident they would be freed soon. She argued that the charges against them should not have been brought in the first place and maintained that hoisting the national flag, the Tiranga, was not a criminal act. Ratna Singh Says Release Formalities Are Complete

According to Singh, the legal team had completed the required procedures for Das and Ranka’s release and was waiting for the necessary formal approval. She expressed confidence that both leaders would be released on October 18. Singh also defended the party’s approach to protests, saying CJP’s calls for gatherings were intended to encourage peaceful participation, whether people assembled in groups or joined individually. She maintained that the leaders had done nothing wrong.

Her remarks came after Dipke secured conditional bail following his detention in Delhi ahead of the planned ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ rally in the Connaught Place area. Delhi Police said his release was subject to conditions, including signing a peace bond. Jantar Mantar Violence Probe: Supreme Court-Appointed Panel Launches Portal for Complaints.

Why Were Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka Detained?

Das and Ranka were detained following a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The CJP leaders had been demanding Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The two leaders were subsequently ordered to spend five days in judicial custody over the incident, which involved allegations of trespassing into the protest area and waving the national flag. The allegations and the circumstances surrounding the protest have been contested by the party.

The demonstrations are part of a wider campaign by CJP and other groups challenging the electoral roll revision and demanding accountability from the Election Commission. The Election Commission has maintained that voters whose names have been wrongly removed can re-enrol, while allegations of political bias have been disputed.

Singh’s statement on Saturday indicated that the legal team expected Das and Ranka to be released on Sunday, October 18. However, their release was still pending at the time of her remarks.
