The Haryana government has asked its departments and institutions to promote artificial intelligence (AI) training among government employees through the iGOT Karmayogi platform, as part of efforts to strengthen technology-driven governance. The directive, issued by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, aims to equip officials with digital skills and improve administrative efficiency and service delivery.
The initiative aligns with broader reforms focused on building a more responsive and citizen-centric governance framework by integrating emerging technologies into public administration. Focus on Digital Capacity Building
In a communication to administrative secretaries, department heads, training institutes and universities, the state government emphasised the need to encourage participation in AI-focused courses available on the iGOT Karmayogi platform. Officials said the move is intended to enhance decision-making, enable data-driven policies and improve overall efficiency in government functioning.
Courses Designed for Public Administration
The iGOT Karmayogi platform offers free, self-paced and certified courses tailored for public servants. Key areas of training include generative AI, digital transformation in urban and rural governance, and productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot. The courses are developed in collaboration with institutions including Karmayogi Bharat, the National e-Governance Division (MeitY), Microsoft and the Wadhwani Foundation. Importantly, the courses are designed to be flexible, allowing employees to complete them without disrupting their routine work schedules.
Role of Training Institutions
The Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA) is supporting the initiative by promoting awareness about the importance of AI in governance and encouraging enrolment among officials. Authorities have also been asked to circulate recommended courses widely and motivate employees to upgrade their skills through continuous learning.
Background: Mission Karmayogi
The iGOT Karmayogi platform is part of the Centre’s Mission Karmayogi, a national programme aimed at capacity building of civil servants through digital learning. It enables continuous skill development through online courses that can be accessed anytime and from any location. The platform has been positioned as a key tool in modernising governance by shifting from traditional training models to competency-based learning tailored to specific roles within government.
Broader Push for Emerging Technologies
The Haryana government’s focus on AI training reflects a wider trend across states to integrate emerging technologies into public administration. Officials expect that equipping employees with AI skills will help improve policy implementation, streamline processes and enhance citizen services. The latest directive underscores the growing emphasis on digital capacity building as governments adapt to evolving technological demands.
