India Today Layoffs: Nearly 120 Employees Asked To Resign in ‘Restructuring’, Says Report

TV Today Network Limited, the media conglomerate behind prominent news channels including Aaj Tak and India Today, has asked approximately 120 employees across multiple departments to resign, according to a report by Newslaundry. The staff reductions reportedly took place between July 20 and July 24, 2026, primarily affecting workers at the organization's office in Sector 16, Noida. Affected employees described an abrupt exit process where they were called into individual meetings with management and human resources and instructed to submit immediate resignations.

Abrupt Resignation Requests Across Departments

According to Newslaundry, the workforce reductions impacted a wide range of verticals within the company. The majority of the affected staff belonged to the Aaj Tak Hindi website team. Cuts were also reported across camera operations, video editing, graphics teams, fact-checking, the Data Intelligence Unit, Aaj Tak Radio and the India Today English web team.

Employees interviewed by Newslaundry stated that they were summoned to ground-floor conference cabins shortly before or during their regular shifts. Upon arrival, managers and HR representatives informed them that their roles were being eliminated as part of an internal restructuring exercise. They were asked to submit their resignations on the spot via Keka, the company’s HR platform, surrender their laptops and identity cards, and leave the premises immediately.

In several instances, departing workers were barred from returning to their desks or meeting with colleagues before leaving the building. Staff returning company assets on subsequent days were reportedly asked to hand over equipment at the security gate.

Terms of Departure and Compensation Differences

Newslaundry reported that employees who complied with the request to resign were offered two months of full salary as compensation. In contrast, those who refused to submit voluntary resignations faced formal termination, which carried a payout limited to two months of basic salary.

Long-serving employees expressed shock over the sudden departures, noting that expected annual performance appraisals had not yet been circulated. Staff members spanning various pay grades were affected, ranging from senior employees to mid-level and junior workers earning approximately INR 30,000 per month.

Financial Context and Profit Decline

The downsizing comes amid financial headwinds for TV Today Network. In the preceding financial year, the company recorded an 81 percent plunge in annual net profit, which fell to approximately INR 14 crore. Total revenue also contracted by 19 percent to roughly INR 807 crore.

Industry factors contributing to the decline included a slowdown in advertising revenues, elevated restructuring expenditures, and ongoing operational losses within its radio business division. Senior internal sources cited in the report indicated that management had previously deferred planned cost-cutting measures last year before proceeding with the current round of layoffs.

The report further noted that six team members associated with India Today magazine were previously let go in late May using a similar procedure, raising concerns among remaining personnel that additional staff reductions may follow.

As reported by Newslaundry, inquiries sent to TV Today Network’s HR department, News Director Supriya Prasad, and Group Consulting Editor BV Rao regarding the layoffs and future restructuring plans received no immediate response.
